Class ended, and I walked back in, completely ignoring Samiksha ma'am while throwing a cold side-eye at that pig-faced Avyansh. I had no energy left to engage.
Out of nowhere, three girls strutted over to my desk, their tones dripping with fake sweetness. "Trying to get Avyansh's attention, huh? Playing hard to get?"
Seriously? Girls these days are something else.
I slammed my hand on the desk and snapped, "Shut the hell up, all three of you. Don't you dare judge me—or I swear, you'll regret it. You won't even be able to show your faces around here by the end of the day. Now, get lost."
Tejal and Jhanvi were fuming beside me.
"Who even are you to judge?" Jhanvi hissed.
"And stop acting like the three heartthrobs are your personal property," Tejal added. "You don't even come close to our level, idiots."
"Leave it," I muttered, pulling them back. "I'm already pissed off because of Avyansh. I don't want to ruin anyone else's mood."
The fourth period passed in silence. Even Avyansh, for once, wasn't being his usual annoying self. The fifth period came and went the same way.
Lunchtime.
I hadn't packed lunch since I thought the first day would be short. Thankfully, the school had a canteen—of course, a place this elite had to. I grabbed a coffee and a chicken quesadilla. Tejal and Jhanvi got tacos and lime soda. We sat down to eat, and just when things started feeling normal, guess who showed up?
Avyansh.
He walked straight up to me and—brace yourself—apologized.
I blinked. This pigass? Apologizing? What the actual hell?
He looked serious. "I'm really sorry for what happened in English class. I went too far."
Avyansh's POV
I felt bad. I really did. It was her first day, and I'd made a mess of it. So, I swallowed my ego and decided to apologize. I found her in the cafeteria of our school, eating with her friends. I walked up and said, "I'm sorry, puffer fish. I shouldn't have done that. So... yeah. My bad."
Eyana's POV
I forgave him. Not because I'm nice, but because I was too exhausted for drama. Besides, maybe he wasn't as horrible as I thought.
Across the table, Tejal and Jhanvi were frozen in shock.
"Did he just—did he just apologize?" Tejal whispered.
"Yeah... I think he did," Jhanvi said, wide-eyed.
"Oh my god, girl. You're special to him!" they squealed in perfect sync, like always.
"Shut up, both of you," I groaned. "Let me eat my lunch in peace."
They giggled. "Awww."
I was so freaking tired of the mess I'd created—thanks to that pig-ass. But he actually apologized. Damn, hard to believe, especially since Tejal and Jhanvi swore he's never said sorry to anyone—not even the teachers.
Clearly, I had to be careful around him. If not, I'd end up starting a new mess every other day in this school.
While Tejal and Jhanvi went to grab their tacos from the counter, a tall, handsome guy approached me.
"Hey, I'm Siddhartha Arora from the other section. Haven't seen you around—are you new?" he asked casually.
"Oh, yeah. I just joined. I'm Eyana Dhritya."
"Nice to meet you, Eyana," he said, extending his hand.
I shook it politely—I mean, not shaking would've just made it awkward.
Little did I know, Tejal and Jhanvi had spotted us from the counter. They hurried back and joined us at the table.
"Hey, Siddhartha. How are you feeling after the match?" Jhanvi asked.
"Fine. Just tired of fighting the same person for sixteen years," he laughed.
"What brings you here?" Tejal added.
"Nothing much. Just came to say hi to our new classmate," he replied, turning to me with a charming smile. "By the way, Eyana—you're really pretty."
"Awwww," Tejal and Jhanvi said in perfect sync.
"Thank you, Siddhartha," I replied, trying not to blush.
"Well, I'll let you eat now. Enjoy lunch, beautiful," he said and walked away.
As soon as he left, Tejal turned to me, grinning. "Wow, girl. First day and boys are already drooling over you."
"Of course, she's pretty as hell. Why wouldn't they?" Jhanvi added.
"Ugh, shut up, you two. I don't even know the guy."
But before we could go further, Avyansh, Atharva, and Veeryansh stormed up to our table.
"What the hell was Siddhartha doing here?" Avyansh demanded. "What did he say to you?"
I blinked. Whoa. This side of him? On the first day?
Tejal, unbothered, told them flatly, "He was hitting on her."
Avyansh's jaw clenched. "That bastard..." he muttered under his breath, already turning to leave.
Atharva and Veeryansh exchanged looks. "He's going to punch him," Veeryansh warned.
"Wait!" I stepped in front of Avyansh. "Why do you care if he's hitting on me or not? Seriously—why the fuck do you even care? You're making a terrible first impression."
Avyansh's POV
Why did I care?
I mean... maybe I was just trying to help. That guy—Siddhartha—he's trouble. Everyone knows he uses girls for his physical needs and then dumps them. Rumor has it he even had a one-night stand with a teacher—probably Samiksha ma'am.
But clearly, I'm the bad guy here. I was just looking out for her, and now she's badmouthing me?
Fine. Whatever. Do what you want.
Eyana's POV
His words were sharp, and I could feel the sting. But I rolled my eyes. I don't care. Whatever.
"Eyana, he wasn't wrong," Tejal said quietly.Jhanvi, Atharva, and Veeryansh nodded.
"He was actually trying to help you," Atharva added."Huh? What do you guys mean?"Tejal explained, "There's a rumor that Siddhartha had a one-night stand with a teacher here.""The same one who's all over the boys—Samiksha ma'am," Jhanvi clarified.
"Oh... shit. Now I feel awful."
"Yeah, you should probably apologize," Atharva said. "You're in big trouble otherwise."
"Ughhh. Why is everything such a mess on the first day of school?!"
The rest of the day passed in a blur. I didn't get a chance to apologize. Classes ended, and everyone began to leave.
Tejal, Jhanvi, Atharva, and Veeryansh waved goodbye. I waved back.
But one person didn't even look at me.
Tejal walked over and patted my shoulder. "It's okay, Eyana. Apologize tomorrow. Better late than never."
Jhanvi nodded. "She's right. Don't overthink it. Just take a chill pill."
I smiled faintly. "Thanks, guys. I better head out, or I'll get home late."
